We’re going to miss uncle Graham’s annual visits when he came down to Cape Town, and feel fortunate that he was with us just a couple of weeks ago. My favourite memories of him growing up were at the family dinner table and the ongoing banter about eating veggies and liver, and how many teaspoons of sugar was appropriate. And don’t offer your guest “some more!” He was the best and will be sorely missed. Lots of love Helen and Graham xxx

    Dear Andrew, Penny & Diana,

Your Father was always a loving uncle & genuine friend to me despite the geographical distance between us since I left Zimbabwe in 1982. I was in contact with him a just few weeks ago & he was as perky as ever – he never complained about anything & always had a positive outlook on life irrespective of his circumstances… He loved travelling around the world & spending time with all of you & your respective families – during one of his Australian trips, he stayed with us in Melbourne, where he got to meet Christine, her parents & my son’s Declan & Callan.

He will be sadly missed & I look forward to seeing him again in eternity….

On behalf of the entire Symes family scattered around the world, we are deeply sorry for the loss of Graham & our thoughts & prayers are with all 3 of you & your families.

Hoping you get a chance to meet Brad Symes, who is present at the service today.

    Sincerely, Chris

    Dear Penny, Andrew and Diana
I’m soo very sorry for the loss of your dear father. I was very fond of him and our times together over the years when we were those family members in Zim that were each-others family for those special occasions when none else was around will always be remembered fondly.
Graham was also a phenomenal host of many family dinners over the years. I would often go home thinking that I really must do that meal for us. It never tasted as good as his.
His gardening skills also put me to shame.
He had a really great wit and yet it was always quietly delivered.
    A perfect gentleman.
I really appreciated that he took the time to visit us in London when Candice had her little Kayra. At his age he navigated tubes and buses which is no small feat in a foreign country.
Graham you were a wonderful Uncle and you will be sorely missed.
    Lots of love Laurie

  10. Gary Jelliman

I met Graham only twice, and that was when he visited Brisbane in about 2018.

We swapped numbers and became modern pen pals via Whatsapp.

I really loved his sense of humor, and am going to miss the mirth and laughter his missives brought!

Through our digital banter, it was evident he was also really kind and thoughtful, often asking how my family and I were doing.

He was also immensely proud of his family and grandkids and I enjoyed seeing the pics of family reunions he would send to me.

What a wonderful eulogy and thank you for sharing the celebration of his life with us online. It was so interesting to learn more about his very busy life.

Sending you all lots of love and strength, from Gary Jelliman and family
